FACT FILE GETTING THERE Little Desert National Park is located 375km from Melbourne via the Western Highway and 390km from Adelaide via National Highway A8. It lies bet ween the Wimmera River and the South Australian border. Access to the park is possible via a number of bitumen roads off the Western Highway with the main entrance via a gravel road from Dimboola. WHERE TO STAY Little Desert National Park: Bush camping is available along the Wimmera River at Horseshoe Bend and Ackle Bend campgrounds. Pit toilets and wood BBQs are available. Suitable for caravans and camper trailers. Firewood cannot be collected from within the national park or the roadsides through the park. Fees for these t wo sites can only be paid online prior to entry to the park @ $25.80 per site per night. www.parkstay.vic.gov.au/little-desert- national-park Little Desert National Park: Kiata Campground is a free campsite that offers bush camping with a pit toilet and BBQ pits. Suitable for caravans and camper trailers. challenging sand track runs in a straight line dissecting the central block. Only 30 kilometres in length, it will take a few hours to reach Broughtons Waterhole, a great spot for lunch or to set up camp amongst the yellowgums. The western block of the park is more overgrown in places but it’s worth driving to Mount Moffatt, the highest point in Little Desert National Park. From here you are close to the South Australian/ Victorian border. For many years the placing of the border was in dispute from 1836 until 1914. South Australia had to hand back territory to Victoria and the dispute was ended when South Australia were awarded damages of £215,000.
